Abstract Mursal is said to that specific narration in which a Tābi’ī (student of a Prophet’s companion) narrates directly from the Prophet (PBUH) while skipping the mention of the companion (Ṣaḥābī) in between. It is generally assumed that Fuqahā (jurists) consider such narration to be a valid and reliable source for their Jurisprudence, which is incorrect. The correct opinion is that the acceptance of a Mursal narration as an evidence is subject to a certain detail in the eyes of Jurists. Normally, the Jurists accept those Mursal narrations in which only the narrator with strong credibility are accused of skipping a narrator in between and those that are skipped are also reliable narrators themselves. Nevertheless, Moḥaddithīn on the other hand consider Mursal narration to be a form of weak narration anyway and do not consider it to be reliable source. In this treatise, the opinion of Jurists with regards to the Mursal narration is discussed in detail.
